Our beaches are still clean and oil free. The sugar white sand is soft as ever, and the wild life is extraordinary! My children and I were running up the North End beach the other night, and got to enjoy another one of our beautiful sunsets. There are lots of turtles’ nests getting ready to hatch at this time of the year. We saw at least five up on the beach near the Sandbar Restaurant. Last weekend, during an earlier morning trek to the beach, we got to enjoy the crabs crawling all over the beach. And there is never a shortage of shore birds flitting in and out of the turquoise water. The breezes are blowing, the water is crystal clear, and the sand is ripe for building a castle fit for a king!

Same old same old, visitors to Anna Maria Island continue to enjoy our oil free beaches. I was just out to the beach and it was 90 degrees plus and was a perfect day. A strong breeze coming from the North kept us cool as I built a sandcastle with my son. Family visited recently as well and agreed, the sand on Anna Maria Island is white, soft and gorgeous.

Oil Spill Visitor update and Tropical Depression Bonnie

Last night Tropical Depression Bonnie flew by on Anna Maria Island. Frankly it was not much an event here, we see harder rains with most normal rain storms. While I am not sure when the peak occurred I drove home around 6:45 PM EST last night which had to be close to the peak and it was sprinkling. I am on the bay side of Anna Maria Island and our office is more in the middle of the island and not much happened yesterday except a little rain.
This morning it looks like the sun is already peaking through at 7:30 AM and our Anna Maria Island Beaches are ready for visitors. If you are lucky enough to be visiting Anna Maria Island today it looks like it is going to be a clear day at the beach! Of course our normal late day shower is forecasted but come out and enjoy the beaches of Anna Maria !
I hope this update helped as a few comments revolved around concerns with Bonnie on the oil spill or their upcoming vacation. We are in the clear, come out and enjoy Anna Maria Island. If you delayed your plans to come to Anna Maria then visit our vacation rental accommodation website or call Saturday or Sunday 877 778 6066. We have a few properties left for the next 3-7 nights. Don’t forget our short stay special’s page which could help with a quick get-away.
Thanks goes out to Troy Morgan for the great Aerial photo above.

Anna Maria Island Visitor Oil update 07.09.10

Anna Maria Island shows no effect of the ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The warm temperatures of the Gulf, sunshine and beautiful white beaches invite to a perfect summer getaway.
The latest projection of the NOAA are showing that our area has a very low risk, about 1 – 20 % – of seeing any oil on our shores. Computer models estimate the potential threat to US coastlines until a relief well will successfully stop the flow.
I spent 4th of July at the Sandbar and was lucky enough to watch the great fireworks on 4th of July and snapped the picture below. The Anna Maria Island Beach is still beautiful. No oil here!
Anna Maria Island June 27th visitor oil update

No changes on Anna Maria Island. No oil, no tar balls, just beautiful white sandy beaches. Yesterday Anna Maria Island saw hundreds of people hit our beaches to announce their protest against oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Our local newspaper constructed a story on the oil protest.
Below is a video that I shot in Bradenton Beach today – June 27th. I have to apologize I did not have much time today so I grabbed the video camera out of nice cool car and immediately threw it into the heat of the Florida day so you will see a few condensation drops on the lens. Sorry! The bottom line, you can still see there is NO oil in Bradenton Beach or Holmes Beach.

Island Real Estate is trying to mix it up a little bit with our videos of the Anna Maria Island Beaches. No changes to our Anna Maria Island beaches. As of June 25th the oil is still hundreds of miles from our beaches.
We wanted to get the perspective of children regarding our white sugar sand. Not much more to say but take a look at the video below which was shot June 21st, 2010. Thanks to i-Jack for taking the video and the interviews. He of course lives and “plays” full-time on beautiful Anna Maria Island. Always trying to give a local perspective.

Same old same old here on Anna Maria Island. Just gorgeous white beaches with lots of visitors enjoying our Gulf

I apologize and have not had a chance to visit the beach all week however Melinda Bordes has and thought I would post a few of the amazing pictures she shot in Anna Maria City on the Gulf Coast beach. My wife has had a close encounter with a Manatee but no camera. Thanks to Melinda we can all dream of such a day!

Silhouettes at Sunset ~ Rainbows and Manatees ~ June 20, 2010

Today was just like any other typical tropical evening on Anna Maria Island as I set out with my camera to shoot a sunset…or so I thought! The beaches were packed with visitors lazily relaxing in beach chairs partly in the gulf water or floating in the water in an effort to cool themselves. Even though it was late in the day on Father’s Day everyone had chosen to remain at the beach to witness another incredible sunset on Anna Maria. As I headed north with the skies dark with clouds to the east a double rainbow appeared back towards the bay side of the Island. Scott, who was headed back from celebrating Father’s Day with his dad in St. Pete said he saw them from there and they seemed to loop over the Skyway Bridge. As I turned to head back south I saw what I thought to be a large pod of dolphins playing not too far out in the Gulf of Mexico. But just as I came around a bend I noticed a gathering of people standing just ankle deep in the water. And there she was just sitting in the shallow water, a large manatee who had just been mating and was too tired to move on with the group. I walked right into the water, shoes and all! I was not about to miss the opportunity to give a gentle rub on her back. I was told there had been nine of them in the area all afternoon swimming along side of the people in the water. They said they would come right up to you and brush by you. Wildlife and Mote Marine came to check on her and they will watch her to make sure she is only resting and not injured. Everyone stood and watched her for the longest time and she was ever so gentle. An experience like that is a beautiful memory that will stay with those who were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. What an amazing walk with an amazing sunset. Father’s Day had almost come to an end and on this day a year ago I lost my sister to cancer. I think she helped with tonight’s production and I know she was smiling on the other side of the sunset. Please enjoy the sunset and remember to click on the gallery pictures then click again to enlarge them.
